It started with a second pregnancy and a browser full of tabs. Every search for baby names led to the same thing: long lists, trend articles, and official data. Useful in theory, but not much help when you are sitting with your partner trying to actually agree on a name.
What was missing was personalisation. A way to describe what you were actually looking for: the feeling, the style, the heritage, the syllables. Something that could take your specific situation and come back with a shortlist that felt right, rather than a scroll through thousands of options with no filter beyond A to Z.
So we built something on Claude AI for the two of us to use. One thing led to another, and findaname.app was born.
findaname.app asks you a short set of personalised questions - about heritage, style, meaning, syllables, and more - then uses Claude AI to generate names that match your answers. Results come with meanings, pronunciations, famous bearers, and real popularity data from government sources across seven countries.
It works for baby names and pet names. You can save names, rank them, share a shortlist with your partner, and see where your tastes overlap.
Popularity rankings are drawn from official government datasets: the ONS (England and Wales), SSA (USA), CSO (Ireland), BDM records (Australia), Statistics Canada, National Records of Scotland, and the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs. Combined, that is over 1.37 million name records spanning 1996 to 2025.
findaname.app is built and operated by Wrighthand Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 12647441). Registered office: 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ.
